23 March 2005, in order to coordinate and promote projects in the mining industry, Saudi branch meg has been established, with more more than one billion U.S. dollars in initial funding. The reconstruction and expansion project in Saudi Arabia is the first contracted project without dependence on the international highway projects of China Gezhouba (Group,5th) Corporation .

This project is going to transform the 156km existing gravel road into a dual-lane 7m wide asphalt road. It started in May 2007 and will be finished in November 2010.
